Lavenham Jackets History

Lavenham Jackets - A Factory First Brand

We are proud to introduce Lavenham Jackets, a timeless British icon in outerwear. Founded in 1969, Lavenham has over 50 years of quilting expertise and continues to manufacture every item in their Suffolk factory—just down the road from the village where it all began. As pioneers in quilting, Lavenham introduced the first nylon quilted horse rugs, leading to the creation of their iconic gilet, which has since become a wardrobe staple. It’s safe to say they are experts in quilting, with a factory-first approach.

The Lavenham factory employs over 100 local skilled craftspeople, and the entire manufacturing process takes place on-site. All fabric is quilted in-house, with a focus on partnering with British suppliers for raw materials. The durable, water-resistant polyester fabric used in most garments affectionately named “Lavenster”—is now made entirely from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles.

Lavenham’s quilting techniques result in a textile that is both lightweight and warm, making it perfect for today’s layered wardrobe. Since 2018, the collections have been designed by renowned Japanese designer Kazu Yokostuka.

Lavenham’s “fit for purpose” ethos embodies everything we love about the brand. Practical, comfortable, and versatile, these jackets are ideal for year-round wear, adapting effortlessly to any climate or occasion. A true wardrobe essential.
